With a strong time in this morning’s FP3, Ayumu Sasaki was nearly qualified for Q2 directly, but got his lap canceled by race direction, so the Japanese youngster continued to fight in Qualifying one at lunchtime. In the short session itself he did a 1:37.314, which meant he missed out on Q2 by just 0.047 seconds to start the Grand Prix of Styria tomorrow at 11:00 local time from the front of row seven on the grid.

“In FP3 today we made it to Q2, but unfortunately, we had our lap canceled, so we needed to go to Q1 and there, I knew it’s going to be difficult, because everybody tried to do their fast lap and many riders are able to do so with new tyres, so it was clear the gaps would be small. In the end, I felt good, but I couldn’t manage to do one clear lap, I hit some traffic in the last two sectors, so we couldn’t go faster. I’m very disappointed, but now we have to move on. We know, we have a good pace for tomorrow. Last week, we started from P16 and now it’s P19, so it’s not a huge difference. I will try to catch the front again and hopefully we can have a good race.”
