Great opening day for Ayumu Sasaki at Misano
Red Bull KTM Tech3’s Ayumu Sasaki showed a great opening day to the Gran Premio di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini today, starting out with the third fastest time in FP1 this morning. The Japanese youngster managed to hold onto a provisional Q2 spot by the end of the day with P8, but was unable to improve his fantastic time in FP2.
“We started very well in FP1. In FP2 we were trying many things for the race. On this track, we are not sure which tyre we are going to use on Sunday, so I was trying the hard tyre, which we didn’t use in any race before. Here we were unsure about the option, so I was riding a lot with the hard option, working on a setting, but with a new soft tyre this setting wasn’t working. So, it’s a bit of mixed feelings, although I feel we did very good. We are on P8, so this is a decent start to the weekend. For sure, we need to improve tomorrow morning and will try to find out what we were missing in FP2. We will try to do our best in Qualifying and keep a strong pace.”
