The Red Bull KTM Tech3 duo kicked off the 2021 season today at the Losail International Circuit with two interesting Free Practice sessions.

Ayumu Sasaki showed some great potential, yet struggling a bit to find confidence in the hot FP1, but improved his fastest time by more than two seconds in the evening to conclude Friday in P13, which means a provisional Q2 spot for tomorrow.

“We had a good strategy today. In FP1 I was riding with an old tyre to understand the bike again like during the test. It was very hot today, but I could feel immediately similar sensations to last week. In FP2, I expected a little bit more from myself results-wise, but I didn’t expect to be very close with my lap time. I’m just four tenths to the front, everybody is very tight. I think I need to improve a tiny bit more, but we are there. The good thing is, that we are very strong with the hard tyre. We just need to stay calm when continue working tomorrow. Let’s see, if we can improve a bit in FP3, but it will be very difficult. I will just try to stay calm, focused, work for the race pace in the third practice session and then be ready for Qualifying.”
