Ayumu lines up 15th on the grid for Qatar season opener
With a 13th place in the combined practice times, Red Bull KTM Tech3’s Ayumu Sasaki secured himself a direct entry to Qualifying two at the first race weekend of the new season. In the decisive session, the Japanese rider tried to pull out a quick lap by himself and ended up in the top 15, which means he will line up in row five for tomorrow’s season opener.
“Today has been a very difficult Qualifying like always in Moto3. On the last lap, I was the one leading the group, I was completely alone. It was not easy to make a lap time by myself, which is a bit disappointing. But at the same time, we feel strong in terms of race pace. Now we just have to focus on tomorrow. I did what I can on my flying lap, everybody did their lap time behind me. I just need to have confidence by myself when riding alone. Tomorrow we start from P15. I think it’s not the end of the world, our pace is great, I feel strong on the brakes and mentally very strong as well. I’m confident for the race, I just have to focus on the start and then I’ll try to do my best.”
