At the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve today, Red Bull KTM Tech3’s Ayumu Sasaki had to take a detour with Q1, but the Japanese mastered this challenge in superior manner, finishing second fastest and passed through to Qualifying two. Thereby, he progressed further to finally end up in a fine top 10 spot. Sasaki will start the Portuguese Grand Prix tomorrow at 11.20 local time (12.20 CET) from P8 on the third row of the grid.

“Today has been better. In FP3 we worked hard, but we couldn’t manage to go through to Q2 straight away, so we had to go to Q1. There we did an amazing job, did a lap time by ourselves and managed to come through to Q2. In Qualifying two, I did my fastest lap in the beginning, as in the end, we didn’t have any more tyres, after we used one extra tyre in Q1. So finally, it was my mistake and it was not our plan.”

“We still need to improve Friday and Saturday, but this was the best Qualifying so far this year and before we were struggling a lot, so I’m happy we managed to come back today. We couldn’t test the race pace so much so far, because Friday was tricky with the weather, so we have a lot to do in Warm Up tomorrow morning.”
