Row five start for Ayumu in Le Mans

Following a fantastic Friday at the French GP, the Red Bull KTM Tech3 duo of Ayumu Sasaki and teammate Deniz Öncü used FP3 this morning to develop a decent feeling in the wet. They went straight to Qualifying two with their positions from Friday.

In Q2 the weather played a major role, as the session started in the dry, but a short and heavy rain shower haltered proceedings after just a few minutes. Coming back to the garage to change to wet settings, both Öncü and Sasaki went straight out again, fighting against time.

Sasaki went down on his out lap, but thanks to the great work inside the Red Bull KTM Tech3 garage, the Japanese was back out quickly to eventually clock the 15th fastest time of the field.

“It was a stressful and difficult Qualifying. We went out, it was dry and when we arrived in the last sector it started to rain like crazy. We came back, put the rain tyre in and went out again. Normally, we could have been managing to do four flying laps, but I ended up crashing in the out lap, which was my mistake. We came back, because some parts of the bike were broken. The team did a great job to fix it very quickly. In the end, we had two flying laps. I would have needed a bit more time, because you need to find out where the limit is in these conditions. But in these two laps, I did the maximum possible, finishing P15, which is not so bad. We’ll see what the weather is going to do tomorrow, but we will sure have a good bike in dry or wet conditions. My target here is to score some good points for the Championship.”
