Red Bull KTM Tech3’s Ayumu Sasaki started Saturday at the Mugello Circuit with a strong improvement in FP3. He went more than one second quicker than in FP2 on Friday and jumped up to eighth, which secured him a direct ticket to Q2 today. In the Qualifying session, he did the 10th fastest lap time and was just on his way to improve further. Yet, he was involved in an unfortunate accident after the chequered flag and crashed. Luckily, the Japanese came away with some bruises.

“It was a crazy Qualifying. We managed to make one lap and on the last lap we were improving, but one rider crashed in front of me, his bike came to the track and I couldn’t avoid it. I hit his bike and had a very big crash. Fortunately, I’m ok. I have some pain everywhere and mainly in my foot, but it’s not broken. I think we can race tomorrow, so I’m happy for that. In the end, we finished P10, which is not so bad. I hope I won’t feel so much pain tomorrow morning and then it’s going to be a long race with a big group, but I felt good on the bike. Now I focus on my recovery and we’ll try our best tomorrow.”
