Red Bull KTM Tech3’s Ayumu Sasaki was biting his teeth today in Mugello to bring home a fine fourth position, missing out on a first podium in 2021 by just 0.095 seconds. The Japanese started from tenth on the grid and was well inside the top group throughout all 20 laps of the race. Around halfway he found himself already in the top 5 and was pushing further to the front. After crossing the line in fourth, Sasaki moves up to third in the overall standings.

“It was a great race! I didn’t expect this when I crashed yesterday. Today, I want to be happy that I finished P4, but at the same time I think about Jason and wish him a speedy and full recovery. I couldn’t avoid him yesterday, it was a racing accident. But I still feel bad. Last night was difficult, as I was in pain, but I also saw the crash a few times and it was hurting me a lot. This morning, we did a great job, the bike was perfect, so I focused on the race. I took some pain killers and managed to finish fourth. I’m very happy. This year, we haven’t been on the podium yet and this was my target, so I’m a bit disappointed about that. But the good point is, that we are P3 in the Championship and close to P2. We managed to finish this weekend strong. Barcelona is my second home, so I will try to come back stronger and try to achieve my first podium of the year there.”
