Red Bull KTM Tech3’s Ayumu Sasaki showed an impressive return to the paddock with the start of the second half of 2021 today following his injury. The Japanese hit the Red Bull Ring this morning and went straight to P4 by the end of FP1. Although he improved by 0.239 seconds in the second session, he got his lap canceled and concluded day one of the Styrian Grand Prix in 12th overall.

“It was a good day! First of all, I’m happy to be able to come back to racing again. The summer break has been longer for me than the last years, as I couldn’t do the last two races. I could relax a bit, but at the same time, I was pretty frustrated. Nevertheless, I trained hard in order to come back strong and I think we did it today. We would have been finishing in P6 with our fastest lap, which is a great result. In the end, there was a bit of rain in FP2, but we still managed to make one lap. I feel I can still improve, but today is only Friday. Apparently, the weather will be good tomorrow, so we try to make another step on Saturday. We know we can be strong here like last year, so we try to keep focusing, doing our job and hopefully be strong on Sunday.”
