Ayumu Sasaki 15th on the grid after tricky Saturday

Ayumu Sasaki had a mixed Saturday at the A-1 Ring ahead of tomorrow’s Styrian GP. A fall in FP3 didn’t stop him from going super-fast at the end of the session. He concluded the Free Practices with the quickest lap time of all and was motivated for Q2. Yet, he slipped away at the beginning of the session, lost some useful track time and eventually ended up in P15, which means he’ll start Red Bull’s and KTM’s first home round from the fifth row of the grid.

“It was a difficult Qualifying. I expected a lot more from myself, but the feeling was not great. The conditions have been different to this morning, but I tried my best. From the first lap I didn’t feel very good, I had a very small crash in turn three. It was my mistake. It’s a big shame, because I have more speed. It was just impossible today. Now we have to focus on fixing that for tomorrow and next week. We try to come back stronger tomorrow. We are P15 in the grid, which is not so bad finally. We focus on fixing the bike for tomorrow and then we see what we can do in the race.”
