Following his injury from Barcelona and the five weeks summer break, Red Bull KTM Tech3’s Ayumu Sasaki delivered a remarkable return to action this weekend at the Red Bull Ring.

Starting the wet race from P14, he took off well to find himself in eighth by the end of the first sector and two positions further in front when he crossed the line for the first time.

On the second lap, the Japanese talent made up another spot and from there defended his fifth place to the chequered flag. The 11 points win lift him up from P11 to P7 in the Championship.

“First of all, I’m happy that I finished the race in P5. It was a good one, because I have been missing a few rounds because of the injury and came back here. The weather was very tricky, but I did my best and we ended up in fifth. This kind of conditions is not my favorite, but this year we made another step, we already did well in Le Mans and here again. Next week we will have another chance, hopefully in the dry. I’m happy, we gained some points for the Championship. I’m a bit disappointed that I couldn’t finish on the podium as I lost the contact to the top 3 with just a few laps to go, but that’s what I could do today. I will try my best to be on the rostrum next week.”
