Ayumu starts from ninth on the grid in the #AmericasGP

Qualifying for the Grand Prix of the Americas saw Ayumu Sasaki ending up in ninth position.

The weather conditions on the COTA were perfect in both the sessions, although the timing was not particularly fast. The circuit was partially resurfaced and the small Moto3 had the best benefit from the new track, thanks to an increase in grip and a reduction in the depressions. In Free Practice 3 only a few riders on the grid managed to improve, while both Ayumu and stand-in teammate David Salvador did not improve their performance.

Ayumu, thanks to the tenth time in the combined, earned direct access to qualifying 2Ayumu in qualifying 2 made two time attacks, getting the time of 2’16.604. For him, a gap from poleman A. Migno of 0.790 s. Six laps completed and best lap achieved at the last one.

“It was a good day, because we improved from yesterday, so this is very positive. We are just not still 100% yet, but we know what the problem is, and the team is doing the best job to fix my problems. Yesterday’s problems have been resolved, so the team did a fantastic job. Today we had another problem and I hope this will be fixed tomorrow. I think we have the pace to fight in the front, so I just need to stay calm. P9 is not what I wanted but it is not so bad either, so I will try to relax and do well tomorrow.”
